What happens at my first physiotherapy appointment?

Serving the local community for over 27 years, HealthX leads the way in advanced physiotherapy treatment techniques. Our expertly trained practitioners are committed to offering you the best care.

When you arrive at our clinic for your physiotherapy assessment appointment, you can expect the following:

  1. On arrival at our clinic, you will be welcomed by our friendly and efficient reception team who will confirm your general history and billing details.
  2. You will then get settled into our clinical treatment area and meet your physiotherapist.
  3. Our trained physiotherapist will begin your session with a detailed assessment of your current physical condition, and chief areas of concern.
  4. Following this, your physiotherapist will formulate a plan for physiotherapy treatment in consultation with you. The goal is to relieve pain and discomfort, and get you back to the most important activities that your physical issue is getting on the way of.
  5. Depending on the nature of your issue, the first physiotherapy visit will also include treatment protocols such as:
Manual therapy (the mobilization of joints and deep tissue stimulation using the hands)
IMS (Intramuscular stimulation, a treatment technique to stimulate muscles locked in spasm and pain protection)
Shockwave therapy for stubborn chronic issues
    • Heat/Cold treatment
    • IFC (electrical current to stimulate tissue healing)
  6. Your physiotherapist will also prescribe exercises and stretching to strengthen the affected area and promote mobility.
  7. Finally, if required, you will plan for a follow up treatment session.

Our goal is to relieve your pain and discomfort and help you return to your activities in a durable way. Physiotherapy assessment and patient-led goal setting are important components to move patients forward in their recovery goals that are established during the initial visit. Physiotherapy treatment protocols as outlined above are generally included in the first visit depending on the injury/issue.
